iKON is sweeping music charts as expected… A monstrous rookie chewing up the music scene

iKON, an idol group with seven members called “monstrous rookie”, is leading a seismic change in the music scene, taking the No.1 on eight music charts upon their debut.

As of the 15 in the morning (as of 7am), “MY TYPE”, the warm-up release for iKON’s debut is in the No.1 place on the chart of all the eight music-streaming website in Korea including Melon, Genie, Soribada, Olleh Music, NAVER Music, Mnet, Bugs, and Monkey 3.
At midnight on the 15, iKON unveiled the music and music video and stood under a big spotlight, sweeping the No.1 in search-word list of major search engines. It is a very rare case for a rookie group to take the No.1 on all the eight music charts upon the release of their song. It is possible because iKON has been enjoying a big popularity from even before their debut.

iKON proved their talent by performing in TV shows such as Mnet’s “WIN” in the year before last year and “MIX & MATCH” last year. That made iKON build a fandom even bigger than that of other idol groups. YG Entertainment led by YANG HYUN SUK has trained iKON with a big potential so harshly, to grow them into a “monstrous rookie”.

All the 12 songs to be included in iKON’s debut album are songs written by the members themselves, which shows that iKON has substantial musical talent and skills even though they have just made their debut. “MY TYPE”, iKON’s warm-up release that has drawn keen attention from before its release, is a love song that appeals to the hearts of women. It is a song that can appeal not only to iKON’s existing fans but also to a wider range of public, and such a potential was proved by the song’s record success on charts.

iKON will release “DEBUT HALF ALBUM ‘WELCOM BACK’ on October 1 and “DEBUT FULL ALBUM ‘WELCOME BACK’” on November 2, to begin their performances in earnest. Plus, on October 3, debut concert “SHOWTIME” will be held at Olympic Gymnastics Hall in Seoul.
