[Analysis IS] How the success of iKON was guaranteed with their debut?

August 20, 2013. It was the day when iKON members stood in front of the public for the first time.

They were not iKON back then, but contestants competing in a survival audition show designed to select the members of another YG boy group WINNER. The members of iKON lost the competition. However, that failure made iKON members grow more and some people even said that iKON is the team who shows the color of YG better and who has a brighter future than present.
On September 2, 2014, iKON members stood in front of the public once again. They challenged for another survival audition to become the member of iKON. Finally, the boys beat fierce challenge from YG trainees, to become the third idol boy group of YG.

Harsh survival for two years. The members became so familiar with the stage, in the process of becoming the final winner. They were evaluated and selected by the public in two rounds of auditions. Eventually, an ideal idol boy group that people have dreamt of was formed.

YG’s president YANG HYUN SUK said when he launched Mnet-tvN’s “WIN: WHO IS NEXT” show in 2013, “I wanted to leave the decision (for the launching of a new idol group) totally to the public.” YANG also expressed his ambition, saying, “This rookie boy group is the one who will make the future of YG for the next eight years, I believe. So I feel all the more nervous. I want to make this team the best idol group in Korea”.

When “MIX & MATCH” show for selection of iKON members was launched in 2014, YANG said, “My ambition is to create an idol group like Korea’s national team. Everyone in Korea compete for their entire lives, starting from college entrance. This competition may seem to harsh for them now, but I’ll not be sorry for them, because it will ultimately make them stronger.”

Ultimately, YANG selected the members of iKON based on the public’s selection and the team has naturally gone through harsh training for the past two years. This is how the team whose success is guaranteed with their debut and whose future is the most promising has been created. If all these were planned from the time of “WIN”‘s launching two years ago, that is a truly and fearfully meticulous plan.

Now, on September 7, 2015, YANG HYUN SUK posted the sketch of iKON’s music video shooting on this Instagram. The project for creation of iKON, “the second BIGBANG”, which may have already begun in August of 2013, has kicked off in earnest now.
